The Metropolis of Chicago has received this urgent appeal for assistance. Please consider how you can help our ailing sister today.

An urgent need has arisen at St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church in Charlotte, NC. Our sister in Christ, Karen Gardner, is in the battle of her life, fighting lymphoma.  In October of 2009, after 4 months of intense chemotherapy and achieving remission, she was to receive a donor stem cell transplant.  At the time, there was no match in the Marrow Registry System for Karen. Subsequently, she received an autologous stem cell transplant, from her own marrow.  Unfortunately, 10 months later, the lymphoma returned and the battle began again.  Karen is currently undergoing chemotherapy and will need a donor stem cell transplant after the first of the year, 2011.  Karen needs our help!  We have organized a Marrow Registry Drive in Karen’s honor, to increase the pool of donors, with the hope of finding her a match.

We are asking our Orthodox brothers and sisters in Christ to rise to the occasion by doing the same.  It is as simple as a visit to the web site www.marrow.org to look into the local events already scheduled and/or to schedule an event of their own.  (By selecting the Join Now or Join in Person link on the home page, people can register on-line or in person at local events.  There is also a link to the contact information for U.S. Recruitment centers.)

To learn more and participate in this drive to assist Karen, please follow this link to her home page.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this request.
