The Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago (CRLMC) marked a milestone in their history recently as they celebrated their 25th Anniversary at the Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago. Joining the celebration was His Grace Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos, who heads up the Greek Metropolis of Greater Chicago and is the immediate past president of the Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago with Northbrook resident Rabbi Daniel Sherbill, spiritual leader of the AYSH Community Synagogue.
The CRLMC, today a richly diverse multi-faith coalition, commemorated 25 years of service with a special celebration and a program which included a keynote speech by Rabbi Herman E. Schaalman with an introduction by His Eminence Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. Remarks from Imam Kareem Irfan, Esq. and Co-Executive Directors Rev. Dr. Stanley L. Davis, Jr. and Rev. Paul H. Rutgers, and Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos were also part of the evening’s celebration. Twenty-five years ago, His Eminence Joseph Cardinal Bernardin, Archbishop of Chicago, joined with leaders of Episcopal, Greek Orthodox and Protestant Churches, along with The Chicago Board of Rabbis, to create the Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago. A quarter of a century later, the Council gathers an even greater diversity of religious leaders, enriched by the participation of Mormon, Muslim and Quaker leaders, and most recently, of Baha’i, Jain, Hindu, Sikh and Zoroastrian traditions. The CRLMC is, to the best of their knowledge, the only such continuing inter-religious organization in this country and the rest of the world. For further information, please call 312-213-7440.
