VISITS MASON CITY FOR HOLY TRANSFIGURATION

VISIT TO MASON CITY INCLUDES MEETING WITH SENATOR CHUCK GRASSLEY

MASON CITY, IA: Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos, Chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, officiated Sunday Services at Holy Transfiguration Church in Mason City on Sunday, August 7. He was honored to joined as his guest by United States Senator Chuck Grassley.

Senior Iowa United States Senator Chuck Grassley was invited to join Bishop Demetrios at Sunday Service in Mason City. Senator Grassley is currently Chairman of the Judiciary Committee and also sits on Finance Committee and Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee. Senator Grassley has been an active participant in the National Prayer Breakfast. Grassley said he also wanted to participate in the Greek Orthodox service, something he said he’s never done before.

“It’s opportunity to worship with other people, but also to fill the goal that the bishop has of meeting with the elected officials (throughout the Metropolis of Chicago)...” said Senator Grassley.

Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos servers as the Chancellor of the Metropolis of Chicago, under the leadership of Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago. In his position, he travels throughout the Metropolis of Chicago to visit most of the parishes annually. He has received nationwide recognition for his human rights activities and interfaith outreach, including his leadership in ending the death penalty in Illinois, state resolutions calling for Religious Freedom for the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, and just recently this year official recognition by the United States of the Genocide by ISIS against the Christian minority population of Syria and Iraq.

The Metropolis of Chicago oversees all Greek Orthodox Parishes within Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, as well as large portions of Missouri and Indiana.
