Metropolitan Nathanael Appoints Chancellor
His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael Appoints the Very Reverend Archimandrite Chrysostom Panos as Chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago
CHICAGO, IL, October 1, 2018 – His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanaeltoday announced the appointment of the Very Reverend Archimandrite Chrysostom Panos, the former Assistant to the Archdiocesan Chancellor, as the Chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago.
“We are blessed as a Metropolis to have a new Chancellor who embodies integrity, love, compassion and complete devotion to Christ,” His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael said. “I am confident that Fr. Chrysostom will serve as a unifying force that will help our community thrive and prosper in Christ’s mercy and love.”
Working closely with Metropolitan Nathanael, the Chancellor will oversee and ensure the wellness and spiritual growth of the clergy, monastics and faithful of the 58 parishes and 2 monastic communities across the Metropolis’ six-state region. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, he will play a central role in interfacing with clergy and lay leadership, oversee the ministries of the Metropolis, and will help implement the vision of Metropolitan Nathanael.

In addition to his earlier work as Assistant to the Archdiocesan Chancellor, Fr. Chrysostom also oversaw the work of the Spiritual Court of the First Degree, served as Director of the Archdiocesan Department of Registry, and as the Spiritual Advisor to the Direct Archdiocesan District Ladies Philoptochos Society.
Fr. Chrysostom earned a Master of Divinity (MDiv) in 2015 from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. Prior, he served as the presiding priest of Saints George and Demetrios Church in New York City, and was interim-pastor at St. Spyridon Church in New York City and at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Hempstead, NY.
