Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago Welcomes New Interns

CHICAGO, IL, September 14, 2018 – The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago announced today the appointment of two interns, John Anton and Dimitri Kondelis, to support the Metropolis in its daily operations. Kondelis served with the Metropolis over the summer; Anton currently serves the Metropolis through the end of the year.

“Beyond being qualified and capable, our interns were chosen above all else because of an authentic interest to serve. This is the Christ-like ethos we need to secure and grow our ministries,” His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael said.

John Anton, 22, is a recent graduate of Hellenic College in Brookline, MA, where he received his BA in Religious Studies, minoring in Literature & History and earning the Holy Cross Certificate in Byzantine Music. He is a parishioner of Holy Taxiarhai & St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in Niles. Anton will be involved in a number of Metropolis projects to streamline internal communications, create new outreach programs and channels and better engage the clergy and laypeople.

“This is an exciting time to be a part of the Church and especially at the Metropolis 0f Chicago. There’s a lot of work to be done and, while challenging, I’m excited at the prospect to learn and grow in service to the Church,” said Anton.

Dimitri Kondelis, 20, attends Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, PA, where he is an honors economics major and an honors engineering minor. Kondelis plans to pursue an MBA and a career in consulting or finance. He is a parishioner of Saints Peter & Paul in Glenview. During his internship, Kondelis helped establish new systems for data analysis, bring greater efficiency to administrative functions at the Metropolis’ headquarters and assisted with creating a calendar priorities protocol.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to have served the Metropolis and pleased my work benefited the Church in some small way. I look forward to new opportunities to serve Christ while at home, at school and throughout my life,” said Kondelis.
