SUMMARY:University of Illinois High School Translation Competition 23 - application deadline
DESCRIPTION:Are you a high school student who studies Greek and/or is a heritage speaker of Greek? If so\, consider participating in the third annual Illinois High School Translation Competition\, organized by the European Union Center at the University of Illinois\, Urbana-Champaign! Participants in the Greek-English division will translate a 565-word contemporary literary text from Greek into English. This competition aims to promote the study of Less Commonly Taught Languages and to provide high school students with an opportunity to get hands-on experience in translation. \n All students who are enrolled in a high school in the state of Illinois are eligible to participate. Home-schooled students who reside in Illinois are also eligible to participate. The competition will be judged by university faculty and instructors who have native knowledge of the target languages and who have experience with translation. For each language division there will be one winner and up to two honorable mentions\, up to the discretion of the judges. Winners and honorable mentions will receive a prize and a certificate\, and they will be recognized at an award ceremony in Chicago in December 2023. DESCRIPTION:SS. Peter and Paul’s Divorce Rebuilders offers support\, guidance and hope to those who are separated and divorced. Meetings will begin this Fall starting on Monday\, October 16 through November 20\, 2023 \, 7-8:30 p.m. for six consecutive weeks in the church library. ZOOM will be available for those who cannot attend in person. This group provides a place where you can learn\, heal and rebuild from the hurt of divorce. New insights and perspectives will help you create new understandings towards developing new personal\, relational and spiritual goals in your life. Discussion\, feedback and support are integral components of this program. Time itself has been stripped of anything but its mechanical meaning. In this talk\, Sister Vassa suggests how we can redeem time\, our hours and days\, guided by the liturgical prayer life of the Orthodox tradition. By developing the practice of praying every weekday according to the hours of the day\, we can fill every hour and every day with faith based on meaning and purpose.
