Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church\, 1401 Wagner Rd\, Glenview IL  \n\nThis is the 42nd Commemoration of the Fall of Constantinople which occurred on May 29\, 1453.  The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago\, the Order of St. Andrew Metropolis of Chicago Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Hellenic Society of Constantinople sponsor this event annually to raise awareness of the issues facing the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul; to inform people in the Metropolis of Chicago of the plight of the few remaining Orthodox Christians in Turkey\, first of whom is our Ecumenical Patriarch; and to educate the Orthodox in the Metropolis of Chicago about the roots of their Orthodox faith. \nThis year’s event will take place on Thursday\, June 1\, 2023 at 7pm at SS Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church\, Glenview\, IL.  Our guest speaker will be Dr. Alexandros Kyrou\, Professor of History at Salem State University\, Massachusetts\, where he teaches on the Balkans\, Byzantium\, and the Ottoman Empire. Additionally\, we will discuss biblical and rhetorical foundations for effective preaching. DESCRIPTION:The annual Lake County Greek Fest takes place on Friday\, July 7\, Saturday\, July 8\, and Sunday\, July 9 on the grounds of Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Libertyville.  Greek Fest will be open each day from 11 AM until 9 PM. \nThe event will be held on the church grounds on O’Plaine Road\, south of Route 120 (Belvidere Road) and north of Route 137 (Buckley Road).  The beautiful golden dome of the fourteen-year-old church can be seen from the I-94 Tollway.  Visitors will be able to tour the beautiful Fifth Century design Byzantine church with the pastor\, Father Thomas Alatzakis. \nCome for the Greek food including Lamb\, Souvlakia (shish-kebab)\, Athenian chicken\, Gyros\, Spanakopita (spinach pie)\, and more!  There will also be delicious Greek pastries\, Greek music and dancing! \nSpecial musical act for Friday night will be the 80’s cover band\, The Breakfast Club\, which will be appearing from 6 pm to 9 pm. \nSt. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church is located at 1400 North O’Plaine Road\, Libertyville\, IL (between Rt.120 & Rt.137).  There is no admission to the event and FREE parking will be available on-site. \nDrive-thru service will be available each day from 4 PM until 7 PM.   \nCall 224-513-5530 or email officeadmin@saintdemetrioslibertyville.com for more details.
