Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago Foundation

INDEPENDENT DIRECTOR APPLICATION

Thank you for your interest in applying to serve as an Independent Director of the newly-formed Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago Foundation (the “Foundation”).  The Foundation has applied to be recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization committed to serving the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago by providing the necessary resources to share and advance our faith for generations to come.

The Foundation’s Board of Directors is comprised of seven (7) Directors: three (3) Directors appointed by His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael and approved by the Metropolis Council; three (3) Independent Directors selected by a selection committee and approved by the Metropolitan (“Independent Directors”); and the Metropolitan himself.  Presently, there is one vacant Independent Director position.

Individuals interested in applying for this vacant Independent Director position must be a Greek Orthodox Christian in good standing from a parish of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. In addition, a Director must be a person who is not any of the following: (i) a member of the Metropolis Council or any governing body of an Affiliate of the Metropolis; (ii) an employee, officer, director, manager, agent, attorney, trustee or anyone acting in a similar capacity of the Metropolis, any of its Affiliates, or of a member of the Metropolis Council; or (iii) related by blood or marriage or because of a spiritual or sacramental relationship that has been established through baptism, chrismation, or marriage to any individual identified in (i)-(iii). Preference for this position will be given to individuals who have at least ten (10) years of professional experience in accounting, overseeing financial transactions, and/or financial reporting.

Directors shall serve without compensation. The term of this position runs from the date of formal selection through December 31, 2026.

The Board of Directors are required to meet quarterly for the purpose of reviewing the Foundation’s investments, finances and expenditure requests and addressing other business matters of the Foundation. Board members also fundraise for the Foundation, serve on Board committees and attend Foundation events.
