Colette Spurgetis is a one-of-a-kind Orthodox Christian. She has been the bedrock of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Rock Island. She has or is still involved in Sunday School, choir, Philoptochos, bible study and never misses a Sunday. She has invited in several new members to the church, welcoming them and ensuring their integration into the community. My father, who was a pillar of the church, said it best about Colette: “If I could, I’d name a church after her.” Although she is more physically challenged, her perseverance to be in church every Sunday is admirable. Her children’s love and care for her were definitely passed on by her, along with her love of and commitment to her church. Colette is an inspiration to all and loved by all.
