Following a decision of the Holy Eparchial Synod, His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael was appointed locum tenens of the Metropolis of Denver, which is vacant following the resignation of His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah. In this capacity, Metropolitan Nathanael will oversee the spiritual, administrative, and financial life of the Metropolis of Denver until a successor Metropolitan is chosen while, at the same time, presiding over the Metropolis of Chicago. Additionally, His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael currently is serving on the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He will continue to serve in this capacity through February 2025. His Eminence asks for prayers, as well as patience in his accommodating and responding to commitments and inquiries, as he continues to balance his new responsibilities.

Tracing its roots back to the early 1920s, the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago is the bishopric of Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, northern Indiana, and central Missouri, consisting of 58 parishes and two monastic communities. The Metropolis is one of nine eparchies in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and is presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago.
