METROPOLITAN IAKOVOS VISITS ROCHESTER

DEDICATION OF PARISH EXPANSION AND TOURS PHILOXENIA HOUSE MISSION

ROCHESTER, MN: Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago, spiritual leader of all Greek Orthodox parishioners within Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin as well as large portions of Missouri and Indiana, visited Saints Kosmas and Damianos Greek Orthodox Church in downtown Rochester this past Sunday, May 15, 2016.

The rare visit of the Metropolitan to this part of Minnesota was to officiate Sunday services as well as the dedication of the newest expansion of the church in Rochester; the Andrew & Anna Chafoulias Fellowship Hall and Education Center.

Metropolitan Iakovos also received an update on the Philoxenia House Mission, which is located next door to the parish and across the street from the Mayo Clinic. Metropolitan Iakovos was honored to be joined at this event by Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede and Chuck Ackman, a Staff Member representing United States Senator Amy Klobuchar.

Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago has served as the spiritual leader of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago since May of 1979. Under his leadership the Metropolis has increased its efforts to assist the homeless and those in need, as witnessed in the labors of the Metropolis Philanthropy Committee. He has founded new Youth programs, established various local dialogueswith other faith communities and continues to work with area religious leaders in promoting justice and truth in our society.
