On January 29th, Christ the Savior Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church, Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church and Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Church, all of Rockford, gathered together for an outdoor Blessing of the Water Service for the Rock River. A wonderful crowd of over fifty parishioners was joined half way through the service by 25 geese that swam up and surrounded the service.
This was the 9th and final scheduled outdoor Blessing of the Water Service within the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago for 2017. Parishes within our Metropolis held services this year blessing the Mississippi River, Missouri River, Illinois River, Des Plaines River, Rock River, Cedar River and Gray’s Lake.
