METROPOLITAN IAKOVOS OF CHICAGO VISITS MERRILLVILLE PARISH GREEK ORTHODOX

VESPER SERVICE FOR PATRON SAINTS OF PARISH

MERRILLVILLE, IN: Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago, the head of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, visited Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Merrillville, Indiana, on Saturday, May 20, 2017, to officiate the Vesper Service for the Patron Saints of the parish. His Eminence was honored to be joined by a large contingent of Greek Orthodox Clergy from throughout Northern Indiana and Chicagoland in addition to local parish priest Fr Ted Poteres and Fr George Pappas.

Metropolitan Iakovos has served as the spiritual leader of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago since May, 1979.  Under his leadership the Metropolis has increased its efforts to assist the homeless and those in need, as witnessed in the labors of the Metropolis Philanthropy Committee.  He has founded new Youth programs, established various local dialogues  with other faith communities, and continues to work with area religious leaders in promoting justice in our society.
