His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael Statement: Retirement of Vicki Karl

On Friday, February 17, 2023, His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago made the following statement:

It is with a measure of sadness that I share that Vicki Karl has announced her retirement and will be stepping down in her role as Executive Director of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago. Her last day will be March 10.

Vicki came to us in May of 2019 as a true Christian servant leader. Given that the Metropolis of Chicago would go through great and sometimes painful change during Vicki’s tenure, servant leadership is exactly what we needed at exactly the right time.

Playing a major role in getting the Metropolis of Chicago Foundation approved, established, and operating; helping drive our financial turnaround and reorganization; managing the launch and operation of new dynamic ministries and programs including Project HOPE and the Mustard Seed Fund; and overseeing the sale of the Burton Place are just a precious few of Vicki’s accomplishments for which the Metropolis of Chicago is forever grateful.

I am appreciative of Vicki’s advance notice of her decision to retire as well as her subsequent offer to stay on a bit longer so we can manage a smooth transition. It is my hope that the Metropolis of Chicago continues to benefit from Vicki’s expertise and leadership on a consulting basis.

Although Vicki will be missed, her contributions will bear fruit for years to come. Today, the Metropolis of Chicago is better off than when she first arrived. This is the legacy she leaves behind — one that will serve as a reminder of the difference one person can make. May God continue to bless you, Vicki, and, through you, all those whom you touch.
