BISHOP DEMETRIOS OF MOKISSOS ATTENDS 100th ANNIVERSARY GALA FOR ST NICHOLAS GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH IN ST LOUIS, MISSOURI

CHANCELLOR OF METROPOLIS OF CHICAGO OFFICIATES SUNDAY SERVICES AT ST NICHOLAS GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH

ST LOUIS, MO: His Grace Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos, Chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, along with clergy from throughout Missouri and Southern Illinois joined St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in St Louis on Saturday, December 9, to celebrate their 100th Anniversary at a Black-tie Gala at the parish’s Family Life Center.

Over 470 parishioners and friends of the parish gathered Saturday evening to celebrate what they called their “first 100 years”. Towards the end of the evening, the large number of attendees under the age of 30 cut a ribbon marking the beginning of their “next 100 years.”
Providentially, the date of the event coincided with the 11th anniversary of His Grace’s consecration to the episcopacy. In honor of that, and of His faithful service as Chancellor to the parishes in the area, an icon of St. Demetrios as protector of the city of Chicago was presented to His Grace. Though the icon was still in transit, a print of the icon was presented with the inscription:

To His Grace
Bishop Demetrios of MOKISSOS
May Your holy patron always intercede for You
before the Lord of Glory!
With love and respect,
from the communities of:

St. Nicholas — St. Louis, Missouri
Assumption — Town & Country, Missouri
St. Luke the Evangelist — Columbia, Missouri
Sts. Constantine & Helen — Swansea, Illinois
Εἰς πολλὰ ἔτη!

The celebration continued Sunday morning as Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos officiated Divine Liturgy at the parish.
