The mission of the Order of St. Andrew is to defend the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which is headquartered in Constantinople, modern-day Istanbul, Turkey; promote its well-being and advancement; advance religious freedom of the Ecumenical Patriarchate; and preserve its important role in the spiritual life of Orthodox Christians, as well as all persons of faith in the world.
Archons are distinguished and well-respected leaders of the Orthodox Christian community whose titles are bestowed by His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. With 72 Archons in the Metropolis of Chicago, under the direction of Regional Commanders Gus M. Pablecas and John G. Manos, the Metropolis of Chicago Archons are among the most active in promoting and defending the Holy and Great Mother Church.
Archbishop Elpidophoros Visits Metropolis of Chicago
His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America’s Archepiscopal visit to the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago took place from March 23-March 25. His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael and the Archbishop of America participated in a full schedule of events, including presiding over Vespers and Liturgy services in celebration of the Annunciation of the Theotokos. In support of Archbishop Elpidophoros’ visit, a contingency of Chicago Area Archons attended those services.
On March 24, the Metropolis of Chicago Archon Regional Commanders, along with Archons Dimitris Bousis and Dr. Stilianos Efstratiadis, attended Vespers at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral on LaSalle Street in Chicago; Archon Robert Buhler attended Vespers at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Milwaukee.
On Friday morning, March 25, Archbishop Elpidophoros, together with Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago, Metropolis Chancellor Bishop Timothy of Hexamilion and clergy, took part in Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Chicago in celebration of the church’s feast day. After the service, the faithful celebrated Metropolitan Nathanael’s four-year anniversary at the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago. The Regional Commanders, along with Archons Dimitris Bousis, Fred Chapekis, Dr. Stilianos Efstratiadis and Jim Logothetis were in attendance.
On Friday evening, the Archbishop of America presided over Great Vespers and Salutations to the Theotokos at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago. Archon Regional Commander John Manos, along with Archons Jeffery Chrones, Alexander Gianaras, Tom Kanelos, Lou Laros, Lou Malevitis, Theodore Sepsis and Bill J. Vranas.
Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate Continue Sprout Initiative in Chicago at Sold Out YAL Conference
Displaying Archon publications, YAL participates with His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago along with Archon Jeff Chrones and Archon National Secretary and Regional Commander Gus M. Pablecas.
Gus M. Pablecas, and John G. Manos, along with Archons Perry Siatis and Jeff Chrones, on February 18-20, 2022, represented the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate at the YAL Conference held in Chicago, Illinois at the Loews Chicago O’Hare Hotel. 750 registered YAL participants attended the three-day Conference where Archons made a religious freedom presentation focused on creating awareness of the issues facing the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the threat to the Orthodox Faith and the role of the Archons in defending and promoting the Mother Church. In addition, the Archons established a vendors table for YAL participates to ask question, obtain publications and to learn more about the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle throughout the three-day weekend.

After thanking His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael, Fr Kosmas Kallis and YAL Committee for inviting the Archons to the YAL Conference, Archon National Secretary and Regional Commander Gus M. Pablecas conducted a 15 minute presentation on creating awareness of the issuing facing the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Archon’s role in defending and promoting the Mother Church.
