LOMBARD, IL, December 18, 2025 – Through the generosity of approximately 225 clergy, laity, and faithful supporters, the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago is pleased to announce that its 3rd Annual Dinner for the Metropolis of Chicago Hellenic College Holy Cross (HCHC) Scholarship Fund raised more than $62,000. Designated for scholarships for the 2026–2027 academic year, the funds are intended to be a meaningful investment in the formation of future clergy and lay leaders of the Church.
Scholarships of up to $10,000 each will be awarded to students of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago who are enrolled at Hellenic College Holy Cross for the Spring 2026 semester. The awards are intended to ease financial pressures, enabling students to focus fully on their theological studies and spiritual formation.
“We are proud to support our seminarians in their educational and spiritual journeys, but there is much more we can and will do to demonstrate our love for the future generation of Church leaders. Through this support, we hope they feel the embrace of an entire faith community as they pursue their callings to serve God,” said Fr. Chris Mihalopoulos, co-chair of the Metropolis of Chicago HCHC Scholarship Fund.
Last month, the Metropolis announced the expansion of the HCHC Scholarship Program, previously known as the Bishop Iakovos Seminarian Assistance Program (BISAP), to now include both undergraduate and graduate students. This change complements the long-standing BISAP efforts, while reinforcing Metropolitan Nathanael’s commitment to the development of ordained and lay leaders in his 5-Year Vision.
“As our parishes welcome new seekers, continue ministering to the faithful and deepen their relationship with Christ, the Church’s responsibility to guide and care for its people only grows. We pray for leaders who can meet this moment with wisdom and compassion, bringing all people closer to God through their distinct callings,” said His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael.
HCHC prepares men and women for diverse ministries – clergy, theologians, social workers, and parish leaders – making it one of the Archdiocese’s most formative institutions. The Metropolis of Chicago invites all clergy, faithful, and friends to remain engaged through prayer, service, and contributions.
