SIRC Launches Planning Study; Appoints Program and Marketing Coordinator

Kansasville, WI, May 21, 2026 – The Saint Iakovos Retreat Center (SIRC) today announced two initiatives intended to strengthen responsible operations and support long term planning at the Retreat Center: the launch of a comprehensive facility and reserve study and the appointment of a new Program and Marketing Coordinator.

As part of the broader discernment process underway within the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago regarding the future of the Retreat Center, SIRC has engaged the independent consulting firm Reserve Advisors to conduct a Property Facility Condition Assessment (FCA) and Reserve Study. The study will provide an objective evaluation of SIRC’s buildings, grounds, infrastructure, and long-term capital needs.

Once completed, the assessment will produce a detailed asset inventory, maintenance recommendations, prioritized project planning, and financial forecasting tools to help leadership better understand both current operational realities and future stewardship needs. The study is expected to conclude in late June.

Findings from the study, along with other relevant assessments and community feedback, will be shared at future town hall meetings to support continued transparency, prayerful reflection, and informed discernment regarding the future of SIRC.

“Ultimately, this study gives SIRC leadership greater clarity, confidence, and control. By planning ahead and making informed decisions today, the Retreat Center is positioning itself for long-term stability, responsible stewardship, and continued growth,” said Tom Kotsinis, Interim President of SIRC.”

His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago also emphasized the importance of SIRC’s newest initiatives.

“These efforts reflect our commitment to thoughtful stewardship, transparency, and faithful discernment,” said Metropolitan Nathanael. “This study will help our faith community better understand the needs, opportunities, and long-term obligations associated with operating the current SIRC campus over generations. As the broader discernment process continues through additional studies, assessments, and community feedback, our Metropolis will better appreciate what is required to own and operate SIRC in a sustainable and responsible way.”

SIRC also announced the appointment of Nathan Hoeffner as Program and Marketing Coordinator. In this role, Hoeffner will support current operations, strengthen communications and outreach, and help SIRC better engage parishes, ministries, and guests during this period of reflection and planning.

Hoeffner will help expand awareness of SIRC’s ministries and programs, build relationships with clergy and parish leaders throughout the Metropolis, and support outreach efforts both within and beyond the Metropolis of Chicago.

“I am honored to step into this role and help share the Retreat Center’s story more broadly,” said Hoeffner. “This is a truly special and spiritually enriching place, and I look forward to helping parishes and visitors more fully engage with all that it offers.”

Hoeffner brings experience in digital marketing across nonprofit, hospitality, and business sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing, with a minor in Digital Marketing, from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh.

These initiatives reflect the Metropolis of Chicago’s and SIRC’s ongoing commitment to responsible stewardship, operational excellence, and thoughtful long-term planning as the discernment process continues.
