Back to Servant Leadership Award Recipients

When Aristomenes G. Liyeos moved to St. Louis in 1977, he immediately offered his leadership and service skills to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, becoming involved in Sunday School, Greek School, and the Parish Council, ultimately becoming president. After a pyromaniac destroyed the original church in 1982, Art chaired the Building Steering Committee, directing construction of a full-service auditorium and church. Faced with a $1.2 million debt, he established a Friday luncheon to generate revenue; and was later elected church Godfather/Event Speaker at the October 2015 consecration. Art continued extending his community service to St. Louis. He was instrumental in endowing a Greek Chair at the University of St. Louis; is a member of AHEPA (vice president), Hellenic Society of St. Louis (treasurer), The Alexander the Great of Macedonia League and Epirotiko Society. Art has taken on every challenge Assumption has faced and is a visionary leader. We are truly blessed by Art’s presence and love.
