The Assumption Church proudly selects Christina Arvanites as our inaugural Bronze Cross recipient. Christina was our Sunday School Director for ten years. As part of our 90th Anniversary, she created the 90 Acts of Kindness as a conduit to teach the faith. The parish accomplished 90 deeds in 13 months! We poured ice water on ourselves to support ALS research (Act #2); sewed blankets for the patients at the Ronald McDonald House (Act #7); visited the sick in Rush Medical Center’s oncology unit (Act #13); and cleaned NIKA House at the U of I (Act #89). Our children learned the Gospel through the 90 Acts of Kindness; our adults re-learned that same lesson. Christina now leads our parish’s community outreach. Partnering with the local Catholic and Protestant churches, we feed the needy in the Austin neighborhood once a month and every Thanksgiving. Christina has inspired the faith within the entire Assumption family and is the quintessence of a servant leader.
