Statement Regarding Rev. James Dokos

The Metropolis of Chicago regrets the misreporting and misrepresentation of many facts by the press and other individuals regarding the status of Rev. Fr. James Dokos.

Rev. Dokos was placed on administrative leave and removed from the SS. Peter and Paul Church of Glenview, Illinois, immediately following the filing of formal charges against him.

Upon the entering of a deferred prosecution agreement with the District Attorney of Milwaukee County, the Metropolis of Chicago has directed Rev. Dokos to refrain from all priestly activities and convened the Spiritual Court of First Instance according to standard canonical protocol.

The Spiritual Court convened on Wednesday March 2, 2016, and has submitted its report to the Eparchial Synod of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America for final disposition.

As Orthodox Christians approach Great Lent, the season of forgiveness, it is the hope of the Metropolis of Chicago that all those involved may receive healing from our compassionate, merciful and forgiving Lord Jesus Christ.
