On Sunday, December 29, 2019, His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael made the following statement regarding Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church:

“Today the Holy Trinity community celebrated the final Divine Liturgy at its location in Chicago’s Belmont Cragin neighborhood. This was a day filled with mixed emotions for me as Metropolitan and for the parishioners of Holy Trinity. As we look ahead to the new year and beyond, one thing is certain: we remain grounded in our faith in Jesus Christ, Who shall serve as the rock upon which the future of Holy Trinity will be established.

“By God’s grace, members of sister parishes have stepped forward and joined members of the Holy Trinity community to volunteer their time and talent on the Interim Parish Council, which, over the next year, will help the parish secure a vibrant future. Currently, more than $25,000 has been pledged by sister parishes and individuals to support Holy Trinity in her transition. Moreover, office and sacred space has been offered to the Holy Trinity faithful to continue prayer, worship, fellowship and parish operations. Even as one chapter closes, we see the Body of Christ coming together energetically to write the next chapter in the history of Holy Trinity.

“As we are reminded by the Holy Scriptures, when faced with uncertainty and adversity, we are called to remain ‘strong and courageous; not frightened or dismayed, for the Lord our God is with us wherever we go’ (Joshua 1:9). My beloved, I am prayerful that the future of Holy Trinity is a bright one because God has taken us by the right hand and says to us, ‘Do not fear; I will help you’ (Isaiah 41:13).”
